CSTEP & Title V STEM Meet Watson
CSTEP & Title V STEM Meet Watson

On October 8, 2014, Mercy College’s Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) and Title V Step Up To STEM took students to IBM to meet the infamous, Watson. If you don’t recall, Watson is IBM’s creation that won Jeopardy back in 2011. The victory of IBM Watson was the first and possibly only time; a machine competed against humans on Jeopardy and won. “Watson is a cognitive technology that processes information more like a human than a computer.” Students had the opportunity to meet Watson and some of the team members that assisted in the process of his creation. IBM exposed students into some of the research projects they are currently working on as it incorporated new innovative technology into the medical field. Students were given the chance to discuss with researcher, opportunities about working at IBM and their educational journey through an interactive panel discussion. Kierra Taylor, senior at Mercy College, said “I am really glad I seized the opportunity to go to IBM; it will be a trip that I will never forget. “
