Six Graduate Courses to your Specialization in STEM Education!
The 18-credit Advanced Certificate in STEM Education provides an opportunity for practicing teachers to return to school for specialized training in STEM pedagogy and resources.
The program is open to K-12 teachers of science, technology, engineering and/or math. For elementary teachers, no subject specialization is required, but experience teaching one or more of the aforementioned subjects is preferred.
Elementary teachers will also take specific courses in math and science methods for K-6 students. Candidates will participate in the capstone leadership course designed to support increasing STEM education for all students within their schools.
No master's degree is required if you have requisite experience.
Mercy grads only need 4 courses to complete certificate.
The Advanced Certificate in STEM Education is a non-certification program composed of courses that are also part of our master’s programs in early childhood, childhood, and adolescence education. Some of the courses that count toward the certificate also count for the master’s degree in these areas.
Candidates who complete the Advanced STEM Certificate may transfer credits to any of these MS programs to obtain initial (if already a non-certified practicing teacher, in a private school, for example) or professional teacher certification (if already a certified teacher). Similarly, Mercy College alumni are able to utilize some of their previous coursework toward this new certificate.
