B.A. SpanishAramina Vega Ferrer, PhD., is associate professor in the Department of Literacy and Multilingual Studies, having previously served as chair of the department. She also serves as director of the School of Education Bronx Parent Center at Mercy College, a first-of-its-kind faculty-developed and faculty-led initiative working with Bronx families to increase student success in P–12 public schools and ensure college access. Dr. Ferrer came to Mercy College in 2010 with over 30 years of teaching and leadership experience in the development and implementation of innovative instructional programs for culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. She describes herself as a “teacher of teachers” and is passionate about the teaching profession and New York City’s school children. She views the teaching and learning of reading and writing as complex processes best examined through sociocultural and sociolinguistic lenses. Her research interests are bilingualism, bilingualism and literacy development, family literacy, and community engaged scholarship.
