Getting Started
Study abroad is an opportunity for students to participate in a learning experience in a foreign country as they earn credits towards their Mercy College degree. Living in another country enables students to experience new cultures, new people and places they may have only dreamed about.
Requirements and Information
To participate in study abroad, students must have:
- Completed at least 24 credit hours at Mercy College (equivalent of two full-time semesters)
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
Students who study abroad remain enrolled at Mercy College during their time abroad. Tuition is paid to Mercy College and room, board and other expenses (airline ticket, passport, visa, etc.) are paid by the student. Financial aid will continue while studying abroad at partner universities. Academic credit will be given for foreign study coursework that is planned prior to departure, approved by Mercy College and successfully completed. The study abroad experience provides numerous opportunities inside and outside of the classroom for students to:
- Discover what it means to be a global citizen
- Develop a global perspective on academic subjects or real-world issues
- Understand how both domestic and international issues impact various cultures or countries
- Become proficient in a foreign language
- Grow as a student and individual
- Develop vital career skills, such as independence, critical thinking, expanded world-view, communication, self-confidence and the ability to learn and adapt in unfamiliar settings
