 IT Services Announcement – Computer Backups

In order to ensure the data on your College computer is protected and can be recovered in the event your PC crashes or malfunctions, IT Services uses the Autonomy Connected Backup/PC solution to backs up your files.  We highly recommend you periodically check to ensure your backups are being performed.

Please follow the steps below to verify that the backups are being performed:

1.     Go to the lower right hand corner of your desktop screen next to the date/time and expand the notifications area as shown below.  Then, double click on the Connected Backup/PC Agent* shield icon. In-case you do not see the Connected Backup Icon, please contact Mercy College’s IT Helpdesk for further assistance.

* Connected Backup/PC Agent for Mac will automatically start when you log into your computer, Mac users may disregard the first step.

2.     Once the Connected Backup Agent screen displays, select the History tab on the left* which will show a history of the previous backups completed.

                        * History tab in MAC is located on the top of the window.

3.     The History tab can also show you the status of previous backups*.

4.       If all backups show “Completed Successfully” and the end dates of the backup are recent, this means your backups are regularly being performed.  If there are backups with a “Failed” outcome, this mean the backups were not successful.   In the latter case, if you have “Failed” backups, please contact the Mercy College’s IT Helpdesk for further assistance and troubleshooting.

 

***Please also note that the backup Agent excludes (does not backup) any audio and video file formats. IT Services advises that you keep a backup copy (on external media such as USB drives) of all important Video and Audio files.

  • Video file formats not backed up à AVI,AVS,MOV,MOVIE,MOOV,MPEG,MPG,QT,QTM,SCM,M4V,MP4,WMV etc…
  • Audio file formats not backed up à AA,AIF,AIFF,IFO,CDA,MID,MPE,MUS,MP1,MP2,MP3,M4A,M4P,RA,RAM,WAV,WMA etc…
