2019 Novel Coronavirus
By now most of you have heard of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). This is the respiratory illness that was first detected in the Chinese City of Wuhan and has been spreading. The Mercy College community is our top priority in the Student Health Office, and we have been monitoring and participating in numerous conference calls organized by the NYS Health Department and the CDC paying attention to any guidance provided related to college communities.
At this time of year respiratory illnesses are very common. The Student Health Office has well established protocols in place to handle these types of illnesses. There will be heightened emphasis on determining travel histories for those presenting with respiratory complaints. Coronavirus and flu symptoms are very similar. If you have not been to the area of the outbreak, chances are you might have the flu. If you have symptoms of fever, cough, body aches and shortness of breath and are concerned please call the health office at 914-674-7255 to speak with one of the nurses.
News continues to emerge about this illness daily which health authorities around the world are monitoring. The Health Office will continue to monitor the information as it emerges and make informed decisions based on the most recent information to keep our community healthy. If you have any questions, please call the Student Health Office at 914-674-7255.
