Q: What is the Mav Market?

A: The Mav Market is a food and resource pantry available to all students, faculty, and staff. We are a resource for you to obtain food, toiletries, recipes, and other health and wellness resources. We are community-oriented and look to serve you as best as possible to help promote academic, personal, and professional success!

Q: How does the Mav Market work?

A: The Mav Market is currently operating on a pre-packaged food bag request system. If you would like to request food or snacks, you can submit a Food Request Form online (due each Thursday by 5 p.m.). Forms must be re-submitted on a weekly basis, as often as you would like to receive a bag. A Mav Market volunteer will pack your bag and label it with the last four digits of your CWID (the number of bags you receive with each order is dependent upon your family size). Your bag(s) will be available for pick-up during the following week, on your campus' bag distribution day

Q: How many times can I use the Emergency Request Form?

A: You are allowed to use the Emergency Request Form as many times as you need. Find it here. Please be aware that we will fill the bag with enough items for five meals.

Q: Do I need to pay for items from the Mav Market?

A: No! The Mav Market is completely free and open to all students, faculty, and staff.

Q: I'm not experiencing food insecurity or hunger, can I still pick up some snacks from the Mav Market?

A: Of course! If you are hungry throughout the day, we are here to help. A granola bar could be the difference between a B and an A, and we want to make sure you have all the tools you need to succeed.

Q: I'm graduating from Mercy, but I still need help. Can I come to the Mav Market?

A: You are allowed to return to the Mav Market for after graduating! However, please let us know so we can help you find the appropriate resources, including food pantries in your area, how to apply for SNAP/EBT and WIC, and any other needs you may have. Check out our outside resources page for resources to check out.

Q: When are bag distribution days / hours?

A: Bag distribution occurs between 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. on the following days: Dobbs Ferry - Tuesdays, Manhattan - Wednesdays, Bronx - Thursdays. If you cannot make it to campus during these distribution hours, we will work with you to schedule an alternate time for you to pick up your bag

Q: Will I still be able to receive refrigerated perishable / frozen items?

A: If you would like to receive cold or frozen items with your weekly bag, you must schedule to pick up on your campus' bag distribution day between 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. (all items quantity dependent). Please note that we will try to have cold bags on hand, but will not be able to hold any cold or frozen items for you past distribution hours.

Q: How many times can I submit the Food Request Form each month?"

A: You can submit one Food Request Form per week, due by 5 p.m. each Thursday. Your bag(s) will be ready for pick up the week after your form has been submitted. You may utilize this system as frequently or infrequently as you need, as long as the Mav Market is operating.

Q: What would I do as a volunteer?

A: Volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks, including checking members in, inventory, stocking shelves, picking up donations, social media, planning fundraisers, and much more! Whatever your interests are, we have something for you to do.

Q: Can I design a project for the Mav Market for academic credit?

A: Absolutely, the Mav Market encourages students to participate in a way that is meaningful for them. We will gladly work with you and your professor to design a project that enriches your perspective and helps the Mav Market.


Q: Can I donate to the Mav Market?

A: Yes, feel free to donate items at the Mav Market locations in the Bronx (Rm 4115), Dobbs Ferry (MH 115), or Manhattan (Rm 329), or place items in our drop boxes located on all campuses. Drop boxes can be found in:

Q: What kind of items are you looking for?

A: We accept all non-perishable food items, toiletries, and menstrual products. We are in highest need of on-the-go meals, soups, pasta, sauce, beans, canned fruits, and snacks.

We are also in high need of kitchen supplies, such as pots & pans, can openers, utensils, and on-the-go containers.

Q: I have some perishable items or produce that I'd like to donate. Is there a way to do that?

A: Please contact Julie Cruickshank ( to arrange a time to drop off your donation so we can get it into the fridge. We want to ensure the highest level of food safety for our members, which means ensuring all products are stored in the proper conditions.

Q: Do you accept frozen foods?

A: Yes! 

Q: I have items that are past the sell-by or use-by date. Can I still donate them?

A: Yes! Our volunteers have been trained to determine the quality of products. We sort through all donations to ensure all of our products are safe for consumption, so you can donate with confidence.
